Accredited CPD Hours for GPs

This activity is available until November 30th 2024

  • Educational Activity - 2 hours
  • Reviewing Performance - 2.5 hours
  • Measuring Outcomes - 2.5 hours

A mini-audit framework for GPs

To claim accredited CPD hours please complete the following steps:

1. Complete the educational activity (minimum requirement)

2. Review your performance

Find up to five of your patients with a diagnosis of hypertension, CVD or diabetes.

For each patient, review their record for their most recent Kidney Health Check, eGFR result, and Medicines Review (see data collection template below).

Actions you could consider from the results of your mini-audit:

  • If there is no Kidney Health Check documented within the past 2 years, consider offering them one.
  • If a documented Kidney Health Check indicates CKD, make sure the CKD diagnosis has been coded into the practice software.
  • If a recent eGFR is less than 60mL/min/1.73m2, consider if this is acute or chronic kidney impairment and review their currently prescribed medicines.
  • If there is no medicines review (MBS items 900, 903, 245 and 249) within the past 12 months, consider referring for an HMR or RMMR.

Note: to be eligible to claim 2.5 hours of Measuring Outcomes you must review a minimum of five patients.

3. Measure the Outcomes

  • Keep a record of the five patients you identified and document any changes to management that were made (keep this record securely within your practice).

4. Claim your CPD hours

  • Complete the CPD response form to log your hours.
  • You will be asked to provide responses to the following questions to provide evidence that you have competed the activity:
    • Evidence required for claiming Educational Activity hours:
      • Review the HMR report in the case scenario. Which of these recommendations (if any) would you incorporate into a medication management plan? What do you consider the highest priority for Ben's medication management? Is anything missing that you think is important?

  • A certificate confirming your participation and the number of CPD hours awarded will be provided within 30 days.

CPD
^Please note, to claim MO hours you must review a total of five patients and measure the outcomes relative to this practice review. If less than 5 patients have been reviewed, you will only be able to claim partial hours for the EA and RP parts of this activity. If you intend to claim MO hours, it is recommended that you wait until all three required activities have been completed to submit your claim. Any claim for MO hours made separately to claiming the prerequisite EA and RP hours must be made within 30 days of the initial submission. -
