Research highlights the protective role of lifestyle interventions in preventing relapse and possibly reducing the risk of depression. There is also improved understanding of withdrawal symptoms associated with stopping antidepressants. Together, this evidence guides GPs in using antidepressants as part of a recovery-focused approach, with the aim of eventual withdrawal.
